Master of social work department in MES College Erumely was established in the year 2005 with an intension to provide quality education in social work. As part of the course curriculum we initiate observation visit to various social work organization to get first hand new comers for students in social work for getting functions of social work societies i.e. administration of the settings , profile of the agency , activities of the agency, areas of the operation , project undertaken etc. The main intension is to give an idea about specialization in medical and psychiatry, rural and urban community development, family and child welfare in social work. As per the observation visits students can opt their specialization in their for third semester of the course.
Every year we conduct rural camp to different parts of Kerala to know the social, economic, political back ground of the particular village/area. Community based field work in the 1st semester social work students to study the geographical, social, economic, political systems, living conditions and problems of the rural and urban communities, principal, phases and models of the community organization. Third and fourth semester social work students participate in field work in different well known institutions in different parts of Kerala as well as we initiate different awareness class for the community. We also give practice for PRA, PERT, CPM, monogram and project proposal with the help of national agencies.
During the master of social work programme the student researcher has to get understanding about, the steps in research methodology, an application of theory etc. The research work shall be completed by working outside the teaching hours.
The department sends the students for block placement/ internship outside the state of Kerala and within the state with the student’s interest. The professional social worker take up individual assignments and responsibilities to learn objectives of the organization during the two years programme.
